Southampton Central is operated by Southwest Trains. Southampton Central is a main interchange in the south for passengers wishing to travel all over the country, mainly to London, The Midlands and Bristol. The ticket office is always open to passengers, along with self service touch screen machines. So'ton central has all the usual facilities one would expect of a 5 Platformed mainline station.

Southern, Crosscountry, Great western railway and Southwest trains operate services here.

Southern operate an hourly service to Brighton, as well as an hourly slow service to London Victoria VIA Barnham, running along the west coastway line. First class is offered on all Southern services heading out of Southampton Central.

Crosscountry operate intercity services to Bournemouth, Manchester Piccadilly and Newcastle frequently. Occasionally, a service to Edinburgh is seen. First class is offered on all Crosscountry services heading out and heading in to Southampton Central.

Great Western Railway operate intercity services to Portsmouth Harbour, Swindon and Cardiff frequently. Great western railway also operate a service to Worcester foregate street once a day. A service to Brighton Great Malvern is also operated by them, daily. First class is NOT available on Great western railway services in to and out of Southampton central.

Southwest trains operate intercity and commuter services to London, Bournemouth, Weymouth, Salisbury, Romsey, Portsmouth and Southsea as well as a Stopping service to Poole. First class is available on all trains in to and out of Southampton Central.


Southwest trains have proposed that they will be upgrading Southampton central. They have already fitted a new canopy to the station and are potentially adding a new platform and more frequent services.
